Rev. Nancy Sherman Carter

Rev. Nancy Sherman Carter is a Trained Spiritual Director who finds deep joy in accompanying others on their spiritual journeys. For over 15 years, Nancy has offered a contemplative presence to those seeking deeper meaning, helping them discover for themselves the next steps on their voyage of life’s many transitions.

Throughout her life, Nancy has been blessed with unique opportunities to hear people share their stories. Whether at a beach, a restaurant, a hospital or a public park, many including perfect strangers, have felt drawn to her and simply began talking. While some of their stories are vulnerably gut-wrenching, others are hope-inspiring. She has witnessed hope and healing as stories were told, became topsy-turvy, and then retold with new freedom.

Richard Rohr said “We cannot attain the presence of God because we’re already in the presence of God. What’s absent is awareness.” Nancy’s passion is to create a trustworthy space for reflective listening, helping her directees recognize and deepen their awareness of that Divine presence.  Freedom is found when we open ourselves up to the Holy Spirit, mindfully taking brave steps to explore areas that need to break open, navigating through changes, grief, or wonder, and uncovering our truest self.

Nancy is an Ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church.  She earned a Certificate in the Art of Spiritual Direction and Leadership from the three-year HeartPaths Spirituality Centre in 2011, and a M-Div from Perkins School of Theology in 2008. She has served as a Chaplain in three hospitals with a concentration in Women’s Services and as a Senior, Associate, and Executive Pastor in multiple congregations and non-profit settings. Her training also includes Clinical Pastoral Education, the Two-Year Academy for Spiritual Formation, Enneagram, Family System, Emotional Freedom Technique and Trauma Informed Care.

Nancy is married, has three grown children and four grandchildren. She loves to travel, camp, sing, and ride bicycles - anything that gets her out in nature to experience life abundantly!

It would truly be an honor to join you on your spiritual journey. Nancy offers one-hour online Spiritual Direction sessions via Face Time, WhatsApp, and Zoom. To set up an appointment with Nancy or to contact her with questions, please email RevNancy05@gmail.com
