Rev. Dr. Lil Smith, DASD

About Lil:

Spiritual direction is my passion. I learned the word for the first time in my first spiritual formation class, and the word would not let me go. I offer spiritual direction with individuals and small groups. I supervise individual and group supervision for spiritual direction. And, I am always open to a conversation about the fruit of the hard work we do together.

A second career pastor, the Reverend Dr. Lil Smith was ordained in the Presbyterian Church, USA in 2011.  She recently completed her Doctor of Ministry at Perkins School of Theology defending the project, “Reclaiming the Role of Pastor as Spiritual Guide in the Reformed Tradition.”  Lil earned a Master of Divinity with a Certificate in Pastoral Care at Perkins a Diploma in the Art of Spiritual Direction (DASD) at San Francisco Theological Seminary, and studied supervision with Together in the Mystery.

Lil is director and co-founder of Retreat House, a day retreat and spirituality center in Richardson, TX .  She is a trained spiritual director and supervisor. In the role of adjunct faculty, Lil facilitates the supervised practicum classes in the Perkins School of Theology Certification in Spiritual Direction and spiritual formation groups.

As a retreat leader, spiritual director and supervisor Lil shares with others her passion for the spiritual life. She incorporates art, music, and creativity in the spaces she creates and holds for Holy Mystery.

Lil is active in the Presbyterian Church, USA, Spiritual Directors International, Spiritual Ministries Institute, Richardson Interfaith Alliance (RIA), Soul Metrics, and Compassionate DFW.

Lil has been married to her husband, Greg, for 30 years.  They have three children, Will (25), Ali (23), and Dean (20).  She loves to play tennis, cook, swim, write, create new things, and take walks with her family.

Spiritual direction is taking a long, loving look at what is real, seeking freedom from bondage, celebrating and savoring with God, and seeking a deeper meaning and purpose in life.
