Shazia Anwar

Shazia was born in Karachi, Pakistan. She was trained as an OB/GYN in Karachi. She has lived in Chicago for more than 20 years where she did Academic research in psychiatry. To incorporate the spiritual component in her work, she obtained a degree in Islamic Sciences, with special interest in Islamic Psychology and Counseling. Her husband is a Physician, they are blessed with three children and a grandchild.

She has co-authored War Trauma in Veterans and Their Families and authored Cave Time Journal. She practices as a licensed behavioral coach and Educator in the Dallas area. Shazia is passionate about the well-being of youth and has authored books for young minds as well.

Shazia is fluent in English, Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi .

You can often find Shazia sharing in a variety of programs at Retreat House. She is part of the leadership team of Common Ground, our monthly lunch-and-learn about values and issues discussed through a multi-faith, experiential lens. Shazia joined the RH Board in 2025. She also enjoys yoga, gardening, herbs, reading, cooking and helping people.

Her exciting new program coming up at the RH is Family Forte, learning from the Redwoods to benefit our family systems!
